Eric is from Laurel, NY, on the East End of Long Island. He was an undergraduate at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL, and recently completed his PhD in genetics at the University of Georgia. While at UGA he worked in John McDonald's lab on the contribution of retrotransposons to gene and genome evolution. Eric joined the lab September 2004 as a SPIRE Fellow.
Eric is studying the evolution of gene order microrearrangements in yeast and arabidopsis, particularly the effect of such rearrangements on gene expression and the role of natural selection in sculpting expression domains that span multiple genes.
