Opportunities for Undergraduates

Opportunities are always available for motivated undergraduates interested in research, either at the computer or the bench. UNC undergraduates should send Dr. Vision their resume (including GPA and relevant coursework) with a brief statement of research interests and career goals. Generally, only rising sophomores and juniors will be considered, and a summer research experience is required for students wishing totake Biology 396.

Opportunities are also available for undergraduates from other institutions who are looking for a fun and challenging summer research experience to prepare themselves for graduate school:

• SPGRE Summer Pre-Graduate Research Experience (SPGRE) Program for Underrepresented Minorities.

Opportunities for Graduate Students

There are a variety of opportunities available for prospective graduate students, particularly those with interest in the following areas:

• Computational problems in comparative genomics
• Evolutionary genetics of adaptation, speciation or domstication in plants
• Population genetics of genome structural rearrangements in natural populations

Students generally enter the lab through the Biological & Biomedical Sciences umbrella recruitment program and can receive their PhD through any of the following programs:

• Bioinformatics
• Biology
• Genetics & Molecular Biology

Bioinformatics and Computational Biology also offers a certificate program for students who receive a PhD from another program.

Opportunities for Postdocs

Inquiries are encouraged from PhD scientists interested in pursuing research in any of the areas listed above.
